Renegade Sound HQ / Youknowkeegan

Renegade Sound is a record label and recording studio based out of Fredericton, New Brunswick.
We've done 4 collaborative albums with artists in the city, a handful of singles and countless shows.
When and where was Renegade Created? What was the inspiration for the name?
Renegade Sound Studios opened its doors in November of 2020. We opened a studio to give artists a space to work on their craft. We quickly saw how much talent was in Fredericton but not many were releasing their music to the public. so we started the label and started creating music with the artists around the city and helping them get their tracks out to spotify, apple music, etc.
The name comes from (for us) what it feels like to be an artist in Fredericton, most people aren't pursuing an artistic endeavor, you're going against the norm. you feel like a renegade, like you're doing something different than everyone else.

What is Renegade’s Mission?
Renegade Sound's mission is to provide a safe and professional environment for the artists of fredericton to work on their music. To push artists in the development of their skills and to aid in the promotion of their work.
Biggest achievement so far?
Biggest achievement ... there's been lots! I think the first that comes to mind though is our first show we hold in town selling out, that was amazing to see and a local producer/filmmaker N.U.E.R.O even filmed that day and made a recap video:

Any future projects that you can shed some light on?
We've always got lots on the go but one big project we can talk about is with a local artist. We're not going to give the name away yet but we've been putting a lot of hours into this album right now and it's going to be something special. We're really working on this album as a whole and not just a collection of songs. Wait for it.
Youknowkeegan
For myself as an artist now living in Fredericton I knew I had to get into a routine of constant practice and brand development so I called every nightclub and venue in town and got myself booked at wherever I could. It's been fun to play to locals and get back into the swing of performing.

What was the greatest lesson learned from a producer standpoint and how has it shaped the way you think today?
The greatest lesson I can think of is to always keep learning. it's that simple. you'll always be growing, always getting better and always becoming a better version of yourself.

What is (in your opinion) the most important thing inside a studio?
The most important thing inside of a studio is the artist.
Do you have a favourite session or collaboration under Renegade to date?
I don't pick favourites but I can say there've been some amazing memories made with some amazing people that I'll remember for the rest of my life.

What was the biggest challenge when it came to getting established in Fredericton?
There's not many artists in Fredericton so you really have to do a lot with a little to get things going.

Advice to creators/artists looking to start creating?
Never stop learning, never stop growing. share your work with the world, it's how you grow as an artist.
What was the most important thing when it came to starting a community?
Making sure what I was doing was for the "we" and not the "me".
Nothing, I only want to add to what is already there.
How has the shift in studio locations affected the atmosphere in Renegade?
What is something you want to take away from 2023?
Nothing, it's the people that set the energy and it's always good energy in the studio.
If you could summarize the past year in one word what would it be and why?
That's tough, I'd say "Growth" growth in myself and everyone around me. Everyone's leveled up and everyones after bigger things now.

Who are some of the people that you encountered in the beginning that helped the startup of Renegade and make it into what it is today?
I gotta give a shout-out here to Andrew Kelly for welcoming us into his space to build our first studio and for letting us hold events in his space. To Corey Goodine (N.E.U.R.O) for capturing a lot of the early days either with pictures or video and last but not least now to you Aspirationz who helped Renegade Sound get to where it is today, Thank you.
